Gamescom 2025 - Retro Area: A Little Journey Through Time

Amid all the modern booths, big publishers, and indie highlights, the Retro Area at Gamescom 2025 was something truly special for us. It brought back the feeling of where it all began ... lovingly presented classics, new titles for vintage systems, and an atmosphere full of passion and nostalgia.

A highlight was the reveal of the upcoming Mini Vectrex, a dream for any retro enthusiast. I still have an original Vectrex and an Atari 2600 at home, so seeing these systems revived with such care was genuinely moving.

Alongside classics like Boulder Dash, there were also new titles being developed for old platforms ... a fascinating reminder of how vibrant the retro scene still is. Even more exciting: The Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary Edition was released on Steam during the event.

Of course, we also took part in the Boulder Dash competition ... pure fun, charming retro vibes, and plenty of nostalgic memories of the early home-computer days. Snagging 2nd place was just the cherry on top of an already unforgettable day.

For us, the Retro Area was more than just nostalgia. It was a journey through time that showed how closely the past, present, and future of gaming are connected. That spirit of continuity is exactly what inspires our own creative work.
