Dragons, Hares and the Nachtkrabb
Fuldaer Zeitung has published a feature on Foxira and Lepusona, focusing on the distinctive connection between music, emotions and gameplay, the world inspired by German folklore and the story behind our studio.
Lepusona in Fuldaer Zeitung
In its feature titled Dragons, Hares and the Nachtkrabb, Fuldaer Zeitung explores the development of Lepusona and how our shared passion for games, software development and music gave rise to the project.
The article highlights several of Lepusona's central ideas: its rhythm-based gameplay mechanics, the emotional resonance system and the close relationship between music, the game world and the reactions of its inhabitants.
Tirsil and his sister Celé also play an important role, as does the world inspired by German fables, legends and folklore. The Nachtkrabb is one of the mythical figures discussed in the feature and illustrates our approach to reimagining traditional motifs through play.
Between development and building a company
The feature is not only about Lepusona itself, but also about the journey behind Foxira.
We talk about our background in software development, Sven's focus on audio design and how this led to the idea of using music not merely as accompaniment, but connecting it directly to gameplay and the game world.
The article also reveals a side of game development that often remains less visible from the outside. Creating an original game involves more than design, programming, art and audio. For an independent studio, building a company, marketing, funding and financing are all part of everyday work.
“Developing the game itself, yes. But everything around it, setting up the company, marketing, funding and financing, takes up a great deal of time.”
This statement from the conversation captures the reality behind an independent game project rather well: creative and technical development is only one part of the work required to turn an idea into a sustainable game and company.
The feature in the print edition
Lepusona occupies a large part of the printed page. Alongside a screenshot from the game, the feature also includes a photograph of the two of us.
Seeing Foxira and Lepusona represented in the regional press in this way is particularly meaningful to us. The project is closely connected to our home region, and elements of German fables and folklore deliberately flow into its game world.

Music, emotions and a living world
Lepusona is an atmospheric 2.5D Metroidvania in which music is far more than background accompaniment.
Rhythm influences actions and combat, while emotions can change how the world and its inhabitants respond to the player characters. Joy, sadness, anger and fear form fundamental emotional states that affect the atmosphere, behaviour and perception of the game world.
Our aim is not to place these systems alongside one another in isolation, but to weave them together as closely as possible. Music, emotions, exploration and gameplay should influence one another and jointly shape the journey through the world of Lepusona.
Thank you for visiting
Many thanks to Marcus Lotz and Fuldaer Zeitung for the conversation, the visit and the detailed feature on Foxira and Lepusona.
For us, coverage like this is more than a wonderful snapshot. It also becomes part of our own chronicle, documenting how Lepusona and Foxira continue to evolve step by step.
